Elder Ootookie Ashevak
Bessie Ootookie Ashevak was born around Kinngait, Cape Dorset in January of 1919. She remembers living in igloos and tents. When she was younger she used to sew lots and make dolls and clothing with skins. She has seven brothers and sisters. Her parents names were Kavavaok and Annie. She and her late husband have five children. She is very happy about the new Nunavut Government because we have Inuit leadership now. She said that young people need to speak more Inuktitut and learn the ways of the Inuit Culture.
